Glass Pulverizer Action in Puʻunēnē! 🚛✨

This week in Maui, Upcountry Curbside turned curbside-collected glass bottles into sand!

“We were honored to bring the inaugural load for the Andela Glass Pulverizer 🙌 Exciting to see bottles from our community transformed locally. Big mahalo to Wes, John, Ridge to Reefs, and Mālama Maui Nui for what they’re doing here, and letting us be part of this exciting project…The intended use of this processed recycled glass is in wastewater and cesspool-to-septic conversions in Hawaiʻi. Keep it up y’all!”

BIG BLUE on Maui, thanks to Ridge To Reefs

More from our friends on Maui:

Ridge to Reefs: “On Maui, Hawai’i, discarded glass is beginning to be diverted to upcycle glass and reduce export of glass to the U.S. West Coast for recycling. Instead, we are recycling glass right here in Hawai’i and turning collected bottles and other materials into valuable glass sand…With the Andela GP-Mega Mini, we are upcycling bottles into crushed glass for use as aerobic treatment media in our Bioreactor Gardens and incorporating them into vegetated leach fields.”

Maui Now writes, “Commercial glass pulverizing technology is being adopted in some communities across the nation. The Andela GP-1HD Glass Pulverizer machine is capable of processing up to 10 tons of glass per hour, which is approximately the tonnage Maui County collects each week now, according to County data.”
