Pulverized Glass Sand For Community Concrete Projects
Using pulverized glass sand in concrete is a way to make waste glass purposeful by diverting it from a community’s landfill and using it to create sustainable infrastructure. Mobile Alabama’s The Osprey Initiative, an environmental organization, teamed up with the City of Fairhope in September to manage their recycled glass in concrete projects for the Flying Creek Nature Preserve.
The Osprey Initiative collects the glass, which the community donates, to be shipped to their business partner, Glass Half Full NOLA, who will pulverize it into glass sand with their Andela Pulverizer System. The glass sand will then be shipped back to Fairhope to be combined with a concrete mixture and used for infrastructure. Since this initiative has been very well received by the community, the Osprey plans to continue to carry out the initiative until at least the end of October.
Glass Half Full uses the GP-2HD Glass Pulverizer, Andela Products’ highest output glass pulverizer which can process up to 20 tons of waste glass per hour. While the GP-2HD machine is a powerhouse, it features many surprising advantages such as quiet operation, low horsepower and durability. For communities and organizations interested in processing many tons of waste glass into glass sand for numerous purposes, the GP-2HD is an excellent choice.
